Take a Daring Retreat in a Tiny House Near a Live Volcano

Looking for an extreme tiny house adventure? We’ve got just the thing for you. Try spending a weekend in this tiny house by the world’s most active volcano in Hawaii. You’ll be sure to find it a lava-ly home.

Welcome to Phoenix House, a fitting name for this one-bedroom tiny house built on top of a lava flow at the base of Kilauea. That may not seem like a big deal for adventure seekers except for the fact that Kilauea is THE most active volcano in the world, and has been erupting regularly since 1983. And as if the unusual location isn’t enough to make it daring and special, this tiny house looks like it literally came out of the ashes. The owner, Jade, describes it as “the perfect space for people to visit in times of reverence, contemplation, and healing”.

The 450-square-feet minimalist home is fully-furnished and includes a loft bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchenette. Cozy enough for two guests. There’s electricity and Wi-fi if you want to stay connected during your volcano retreat. Massive windows let the light flood in and open onto stunning views of black lava fields, the ocean, flowing lava, and starry skies at night.

The views itself are worth a stay if you’re brave and daring enough to sleep next to a volcano. Rent is at £150 per night. Check it out on Airbnb.

*Kilauea is located in the Kalapana region on the island of Hawai’i (The Big Island), just 4 miles away from Mauna Loa.
